When Harold Met Kumar…

Kumar: In eight hours, we are going to be in Amsterdam.
Harold: This is amazing.
Kumar: I know, dude. It’s going to be exactly like Eurotrip, except it’s not going to suck.

Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay
AMC Stony Brook – April 25, 2008

The premise of Harold and Kumar is set out to appeal to a certain “demographic” if you will. Following in the footsteps of such classics as Dazed and Confused, the Cheech and Chong series, Half Baked, and well, you get the picture. Escape from Guantanamo Bay is the continuation of what I hope to be many hilarious installments to come. One reviewer on IMDB claims, “If stoner comedy has a place in the satire canon, this is one of the best.”

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Matthew: What did you think of my demo? Did you get it? I mean, did you get it?
Aldous Snow: I was gonna listen to that, but then, um, I just carried on living my life.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
AMC Stony Brook – April 18, 2008

Takes super human strength to resist the obvious puns… Not Forgetting… Unforgettable… eh, screw it.

Fantastic and Hilarious! Going into it, I had a certain expectation of comedic value, based on previous work of Executive Producer Judd Apatow (40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked up). Sheldon: In all of them. That is the point.

The Big Bang Theory
Mondays, 8:00PM on CBS

Inundated with reality competition shows like Are you Stupider than a 5th grader? and Dancing with the Stars (don’t even get me started on Wife Swap), its a wonder how Hollywood barely survived the programming hump from the Writer’s Guild Strike. Shows with wit, irreverence and intelligently crafted characters are few and far between, and rarely seep through the harsh censorship of mainstream networks.

Deputy: This sure is a mess. Ain’t it, Sheriff?
Sheriff: If it ain’t, it’ll do ’til the mess gets here.

DVD Wednesday – 2nd Viewing – April 12, 2008

Though a firm believer in the purity of first viewing reactions, I bring you an even more glowing 2nd viewing wrap-up of No Country for Old Men. Again, this is a phenomenal film. Second time around only improved the pacing and the flow of the story. The noir-inspired suspense, the thrill of the chase, the carefully placed violence… all spectacular.
