Limited release films are a real treat for me, as they usually only run in NYC. Adding the travel costs to a city-priced ticket quickly becomes a luxury that’s reserved for greater venues such as concerts or broadway shows. It is a real shame that distribution deals curtail the participation of willing film patrons. I saw the trailer for the film Great World of Sound, and thought “Hey, that looks funny. If that gets released like Little Miss Sunshine, I’ll get to see it.”

All I can say without ruining the film is that it was not what I expected… in the good way. True, it was not as funny as the trailer promised. However, the story plays out in a charming and heart-wrenching way. I suggest you see it. Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. Sometimes its better to let a work stand on its own.

Recommendation: If you are an indie film buff like me who saw Lars and the Real Girl or Margot at the Wedding or Ghost World or Love Liza or any number of smaller, underrated gems, this is a film for you.
